YAMAZAKI 18 YEAR OLD 43%
Single Malt Whisky, Japan / Honshu - Osaka, 70cl, Ref: 642
Our experts reviews“ This single malt is destined anyone nostalgic for the legendary but now unobtainable, prestigious Speyside Macallan 18 year old Sherry Cask. Richer, smoother, more complex and more balanced than its illustrious Scottish cousin, this Japanese nectar from Suntory is for us currently the best 18 year old available. An absolute must.
A blend of several casks that have previously held sherry, this single malt is an official version available as a special bottling. A bar of hazelnut and raisin dark chocolate. Delicious!

- Appearance : old gold with glints of bronze.
- Nose : direct and precise, it evokes sherry with notes of prunes, walnuts and raisins. Fruit paste (strawberry, fig). More spicy (cinnamon, black pepper) and medicinal (arnica) on aeration.
- Palate : supple attack, it then becomes rich and dominated by notes of sherry (toasted hazelnuts, almonds, bitter cocoa). A real basket of dried fruit (raisins, dates). It then becomes woody and slightly bitter with notes of charred oak and catechu.
- Overall : very clean, with great persistence, notes of coffee beans, soot and dark chocolate.
- The brand
After nearly a century, Yakima perfectly illustrates the integration of whisky into Japanese culture. For its production, Yamazaki uses six types of malted barley with various levels of peat, all from Scotland. It is during the fermentation process that Yamazaki begins to acquire some of its Japanese character. The 10, 12 and 18 year-old releases all have a rich, refined, elegant profile, characterised by the absence of malted notes. With age the initial fruity, vanilla notes are joined by dried fruit, chocolate and oak, all the while continuing to offer tremendous freshness. Find out more
