Cradled by the sea spray of Machir Bay beach, the 1st single malt was born in September 2009. Built on the model of a 19th-century "farm distillery", Kilchoman makes a point of handcrafting a peated malt with fine saline accents.
The 100% Islay 13th Edition was distilled from the Publican barley harvests of 2012, 2013, 2014 before ageing in 44 bourbon casks for a minimum of 8 years.
The result is a luscious combination of lightly peated barley, with the influence of bourbon casks adding buttery, vanilla and toffee notes that perfectly match Kilchoman's fruity, briny and peaty character.
Tasting notes
Nose : Malt bread, toffee apple, banana bread, citrus, lavender, pear drops, sea salt and hints of peat smoke.
Palate : Fresh vanilla and peat smoke perfumed with caramel, barley flower, raisins and spicy oak tannins.
Overall : Silky viscosity with fresh crumpets, butter and honey.
