In its heyday, Cambus whisky was very popular with blenders. Cambus eventually closed in 1993 as part of Diageo's reorganisation. Its factory was dismantled and the site turned into a cask filling operation and warehouses. This fourteenth batch is a 25 year old from a single sherry cask, 413 bottles. That Boutique-Y Whisky Company is recognisable by its cartoon-style labels, full of detail and allusion. While the design may seem whimsical, the selection is meticulous and often very surprising.
Gourmand, épicé. Caramel, banane, poivre, épices.
Tasting notes
Nose : Creamy with butterscotch and banana, vanilla-y oak initially, with whole black peppercorns, a a touch of cake batter and red chilli heat adding complexity.
Palate : Muscovado sugar, vanilla ice cream, green apple and soft toffee. Some oiliness and warming oak provide depth, along with aromatic baking spice.
