KOPKE

Founded in 1638, Kopke is the oldest Port wine house still in operation. Its history began with the arrival of Nicolau Kopke, Consul General of the Hanseatic League in Porto, in 1636, who founded the Kopke house two years later. Initially established as a Port wine merchant, the company acquired its first vineyards in 1781, marking the beginning of its own wine production. In 1922, Kopke acquired Quinta de São Luiz, an iconic estate in the Douro Valley, renowned for the quality of its terroir and old vines. Today, the estate remains the heart of Kopke's Port wine production. With nearly four centuries of expertise, Kopke has established itself as one of the leading names in Port wine, particularly renowned for the exceptional quality of its aged Tawny Ports.
