In 2002, Guy Le Lay, the founder of the Distillerie des Menhirs, finally realized his dream and launched Eddu Silver, the world’s first buckwheat whisky and a great success. And it was in this kind of ex-cognac cask used several times to produce Eddu Silver that this 54% ABV whisky was matured. This venerable cask wonderfully brings out Eddu’s unique cereal and fruity freshness in a complex and shimmering expression.
Tasting notes
Nose : Pure, ethereal.
The rich first nose is expressed in sweet pastry (vanilla flan) and velvety (strawberry yoghurt) notes. After this introduction, buckwheat takes centre stage in the aromatic palette. Rose scents form a very refined second nose.
Appearance : Ambre clair.
Palate : Full-bodied, smooth.
The honeyed attack quickly drifts into spicy, aniseed and slightly woody (new wood) flavours on the mid-palate. Full of texture, the end of the palate returns to buckwheat. Allowed to breathe, the palate is at first herbal (chive), then very round (nectarine).
Overall : Warm, spirited.
The start of the finish is insanely rich (vanilla sugar, cannelé pastries). The aniseed found on the attack returns here in the background. The after-taste then brushes with the world of fruit brandy.
Slightly Floral
Heavily Fruity
