Tennessee Whiskey
This straight whisky is produced in the state of Tennessee, from a mix of grains containing at least 51% of the same variety (usually maize).
It differs from bourbon in that it is filtered through a layer of more than three metres of charcoal; this process is known as ‘charcoal mellowing’ or the ‘Lincoln County Process’, and was invented in 1825 by Alfred Eaton. This style of whiskey was officially recognized in 1941.
