The re-creation of a traditional Dutch genever - the drink that gave birth to English gin - Bols Oude Jenever is based on 16th and 17th century recipes. This type of ‘oude’ (old) genever contrasts with ‘jonge’ (young) genever by the nature of the distillate. The ‘jonge’ genevers are light in character, and could be compared to blended whiskies, while the ‘oude’ genevers are made with a higher percentage of malted barley and thus have more character.
