NINKASI Whisky LAB 005 Single Cask and Grape Ale Barrel Aged
A limited edition of 216 units
Founded in Lyon in 1997, Ninkasi is named after the goddess of beer in Sumerian mythology. Specializing initially in brewing, it launched its first single malt in 2018 and now creates bottlings matured primarily in wine and cognac casks that showcase France’s traditional expertise in winegrowing.
In this giftpack, Ninkasi brings us a single malt matured in an ex-Côte de Nuit red wine barrel and finished in an ex-white Pineau Des Charentes cask and a Grape Ale also aged in the same Côte de Nuit cask after the whisky was removed.
An opportunity to explore the links between malt and grape, this giftpack can be used to taste both products either in separate glasses or in a traditional Irish boilermaker, where beer and whisky are served together in the same glass.

Tasting notes
Nose : Rich, heady. On the first nose, fragrances of blood orange, black liquorice, ginger and flowers (iris, hyacinth) form an intense initial sequence. Allowed to breathe, aromas of caramel and cedar bring lots of warmth to an aroma palette that gradually becomes more honeyed (lime blossom).
Appearance : Topaze.
Palate : Firm, concentrated. The balsamic attack is also vanilla, fruity (prune) and salty. Tinged with exoticism (passion fruit, mango), the mid-palate is tertiary (dried leaves, mushroom, toffee). Red fruits (strawberry, red fruits) arrive in a climax.
Overall : Long, creamy. The vanilla and milky (coconut, almond) start of the finish boasts impressive presence. Little by little, citrus fruits (marmalade) and apricots find perfect harmony. The rich after-taste wavers between flavours of Far Breton cake, prune flan and black grape.
