Nose : Complex, sleek. Against a backdrop of barley that is both verdant and malted, the nose delivers exquisite aromas of citrus (candied lemon, orange), dried fruits and nuts (persimmon, walnut, chestnut), and toffee of great elegance. Gradually, it turns subtly earthy (dry peat), rooty (gentian, ginger), and ashy (cigar).
Palate : Distinguished, expansive. Chocolate-driven, exotic (mango, banana, guava), herbaceous (alfalfa, cut hay), and steeped in herbal nuances (sage, linden blossom), the palate thrills with its vibrancy and freshness. A long sequence follows, layered with liquorice, powdery cocoa, heady iris concrete, delicately peated, saline, and camphoraceous notes.
Overall : Rich, noble. Candied flavors of currant, fig, and very ripe banana illustrate its sun-drenched, mature character. In a different yet equally complex register, the retro-olfaction highlights its savory (smoked meat) and empyreumatic (fireplace hearth) character.
