Founded in 2002 by Richard and Bernard d’Offay on the Saint-André plains, the Trois-Frères distillery produces a rum named Takamaka after a district of Mahe Island. This version was distilled in pot stills and aged for three years in a French new oak cask and finished in an ex-white Pineau Des Charentes cask. The incredibly complex but balanced palette of flavours and aromas is enriched with the syrupy tastes and fragrances of the fortified wine, helping bring out its exotic and mature expression.

Nose : Full, refined. The powdery and spicy (ginger, cinnamon) first nose reveals beautiful apricot, tangy (orange) and exotic (passion fruit) notes. Allowed to breathe, vanilla and iris butter fragrances pair with subtle aromas of chocolate and praline.

Appearance : Cuivre orangé soutenu.

Palate : Lively yet well-balanced. Medicinal (arnica) and fibrous (sugar cane, liquorice stick), the attack is fruit (apricot, marmalade). On the mid-palate, the chocolate notes take on darker and more spicy tones (saffron, cardamom).

Overall : Long, full. The start of the finish is equipped with a beautiful chocolatey bitterness and also enveloped in menthol and balsamic (cedar) nuances. The salty end of the finish is resolutely tertiary (porcini mushroom), heady (sandalwood) and woody.
