Port Charlotte SYC:01 2013 is the first release in the Cask Exploration series to be aged in Syrah casks. The Syrah casks used for Port Charlotte SYC:01 come from a French wine estate specialising in the production of organic and biodynamic wines.
Maturation in Syrah casks, a red wine renowned for its bold and full-bodied character, imparts rich notes of red fruits and layers of spice to SYC:01, complementing the aromatic peat smoke characteristic of Port Charlotte.
Heavily Peated
Nose : Sweet caramel is immediate on the nose, followed by a mix of fresh fruits and a subtle aroma of peat. Oak spices, ginger, marzipan, and honey complement the fruity character.
Palate : Charred oak and barbecue smoke envelop the palate, beautifully balanced by sweet fruits. Notes of candied peel, fresh mango, and brown sugar add brightness and contrast with the smoke. A drop of water reveals aromas of oak, lavender, and herbs.
Overall : Roasted Brazil nuts, coconut, and cocoa powder bring a delicate creaminess.
