JAPANESE WHISKY : Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt Essentials is a blended malt from Japan.

PROFILE : This blended malt displays a malted, herbaceous and medicinal profile, featuring peated, coastal, chocolate and citrus notes. It is composed of single malts from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries.

DID YOU KNOW? This Essentials special edition focuses on the peated malts of Yoichi and contains a portion of whiskies distilled at the turn of the millennium.

Color : jaune doré

Nose : Both fresh and heady. Initially herbaceous (freshly cut hay), medicinal (Tiger Balm), ashy and empyreumatic (eucalyptus), the aromatic profile develops, upon aeration, into notes of vanilla, menthol and minerality (chalk). Then, a light peat note, infused with marine and iodine-like scents, alongside malty aromas (barley porridge) proudly take centre stage on the nose.

Palate : Lively and elegant. Fruity (pear, mirabelle plum), with hints of vanilla and herbal notes (sage, verbena), the flavour profile is underpinned by a delicate peaty note with hints of chocolate and lemon. Gradually, notes of barley roll across the palate before superb aniseed notes bring a burst of freshness to a lively finish.

Overall : Balanced and serene. With grassy (reed, rush) and vegetable (courgette, lamb’s lettuce) notes, it also reveals milky (coconut, almond) and lemony undertones. With ash-like (burning Havana cigar), earthy notes and a subtle malty bitterness, the after-smell echoes the pear flavours detected earlier.
