Eight years old and bottled at natural proof, this first Neisson L'Empyreumatique cuvée is the fruit of a blend of rums aged in cognac and bourbon casks. Admirably bearing its name - derived from the Greek “ἐμπύρευμα” (empyreuma) meaning “coal used to rekindle fire” - it reveals a profile marked by roasted and toasted aromas, yet devoid of any superfluous woodiness. The fruity, floral and infused sequences that punctuate the tasting give it remarkable freshness and complexity.

Color : vieil or à reflets cuivrés.

Nose : rich, deep. Revealing superb empyreumatic aromas of beeswax, toast, tiger balm, eucalyptus, apricot kernel, orange zest and gentian root, the aromatic palette perfectly reflects the cuvée's name. On aeration, it becomes candied (lemon, pear), balsamic (pine) and floral (lavender, iris).

Palate : lively and delicate. Tropical (banana, pineapple), in turn candied (lemon), vanilla and infused (sage, verbena), the palate differs somewhat from the nose. Saline, it opens with notes of fresh ginger and sugar cane. With time, a few medicinal flavors (band-aid, sinapism) echo the empyreumatic character of the aromatic palette.

Overall : fresh, slender. Resting on a herbaceous, root-like bitterness bursting with mineral salts, it evokes combava, pineapple and grapefruit. Floral (vetiver) and licorice-like, the retro-olfaction offers a concentrate of essential oils (rosemary, savory, geranium).
