LINKWOOD 2009 1st Fill Sherry G&M

Nose : both refined and exuberant. Powdery notes of coffee and rice grain mingle with heady honeysuckle and iris, herbal verbena infusions and empyreumatic beeswax. The aromatic profile displays remarkable purity and lift, before evolving towards wonderfully candied notes of pear and lemon, indulgent flavours of calisson d’Aix and Bêtises de Cambrai sweets, and exotic hints of coconut and banana.

Palate : delicate and fluid. Closely echoing the nose, the flavour profile follows liquorice, Cayenne pepper and saffron notes that highlight its complexity and elegance. With time, its deeply malty character becomes increasingly apparent, with barley grains seeming to roll across the palate.

Overall : vibrant and silky. Evocative, it transports us to the heart of a barley field, while flavours of almond, fresh walnut and raisin underline the beautiful influence of the sherry cask. Refreshed by a pleasant malty, root-like bitterness, the retronasal aromas unfold in turn with floral notes of broom and mimosa, acacia honey and spices such as ginger and cinnamon.
