SCOTCH WHISKY : Laphroaig 36 Year Old 1989 is a peated single malt from the Isle of Islay in Scotland.

PROFILE : This single malt reveals a rich and full-bodied profile, featuring tropical fruit, floral, chocolate, sea spray, waxy and medicinal notes. Selected exclusively by La Maison du Whisky for the Les Anthologistes Collection, this single cask No. 9398 was matured in a hogshead cask and bottled at cask strength.

Nose : rich and full. Exotic (passion fruit, mango), tangy (lime), floral (lily, lily of the valley), chocolatey, vanilla-led, maritime (sea spray) and honeyed (acacia), the aromatic profile winds its way through a rich, oily peat. With aeration, aromas of beeswax, charcoal and ash mingle with notes of eucalyptus and pine resin.

Palate : full and lively. Like the nose, the palate is simultaneously peaty, exotic, citrusy and vanilla-led. This particularly vibrant opening gradually gives way to infused notes (chamomile, sage), powdery flavours (ginger, rice) and medicinal nuances (Tiger Balm). Towards the end of the palate, the peat takes the lead and coats the mouth. It now takes on vanilla (pod) and maritime notes (seaweed, kelp).

Overall : dense and concentrated. Closely linked to the end of the palate, it is also maritime, fermentative (grist), empyreumatic (a burning Havana cigar) and chalky. Chocolatey, saline and mineral (bitumen), the retro-olfaction lingers on increasingly oily (castor oil), camphoraceous and musky flavours.
