    Single Cask # 1962 – First Fill Sherry Hogshead Limited edition of 300 bottles LMDW exclusive Located in Ballindalloch (Banffshire) in the heart of Speyside, Glenfarclas Distillery was founded in 1836 by Robert Hay and has been owned by the Grant family since 1865. It has boasted three wash stills and three spirit stills since 1976. This remarkable Glenfarclas is part of the prestigious Family Casks, a collection that was established in 2007 and includes some of the oldest vintages dating back to 1952. Made from Laureate barley and fermented over 106 hours, this expression was matured exclusively in first-fill sherry casks and proves demanding, complex and deep, with a stunning aroma and flavour palette that unfurls in Glenfarclas’ trademark malted, fruity, chocolatey and woody style.

    Nose : Rich, deep. Deeply malty, peppery and camphorous with a backbone of steel, the aroma palette opens in a full-bodied expression of this single malt’s power. Allowed to breathe, a sumptuous rancio lingers in the air, revealing notes of orange peel, dark chocolate, dried apricot, walnuts and mango, as the nose lingers on with hints of black truffle and Corinthian grape.

    Palate : Lively yet smooth. Powdered (cocoa, ginger), malted, jammy (marmelade), spiced (cinnamon) with a fine layer of salted butter caramel gradually coating the taste buds, the flavour palette thickens into delicious sweetness, while simultaneously developing a tangier (orange zest, mango coulis) and more honeyed (lavender, heather) aspect.

    Overall : Dynamic, long. Replicating the malted, powdery tones from the nose and palate, the finish is refreshed with flavours of gentian and black liquorice. The retro-nasal olfaction sees notes of precious wood, leather and nuts (chestnut) mingle with infusion flavours (cardamom tea, eucalyptus).
