In 1986, Guy Le Lay quit his job as a maths teacher to found the Distillerie des Menhirs. For twelve years, he focused on apple-based spirits, before launching production of the first buckwheat whisky, Eddu. For the Creations 2025 catalogue, La Maison du Whisky has selected a 12 year old version distilled ten years after the release of the first Eddu. This harmonious expression reveals magnificent fruity sequences that are at times tangy, at times bitter, flirting sensually with the world of cognac.

Color : Jaune doré.

Nose : heady, ethereal. Juicy fragrances of apple, grape and prune demonstrate a clear kinship with the universe of young cognacs. The aroma palette’s distinguished profile is underscored by notes of white rose, buckwheat and meringue.

Palate : well-balanced, invigorating. On the attack, chunks of apple and pear reveal a lovely acidity. The generous mid-palate is characterized by flavours of apricot, rum baba, almond and strawberry, all interwoven with hints of pepper.

Overall : sweet, serene. The apple and frangipane notes first evoke almond pastries. A note of blood orange then brings a new register of fruit to the tasting: bitterness. A very elegant touch of violet appears on the after-taste.
