Founded in 1949, the Clarendon distillery is equipped with a 20,000-litre Vendôme pot still and a 25,000-litre Indian pot still named Calendria-i used to produce rums with an ester content of 600 to 1,500 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. After 14 years maturing in the tropical climate of Jamaica, this version was then aged for an additional four years in a continental climate. With huge complexity and presence, its palette of flavours and aromas has acquired a maturity of expression that words simply cannot describe.

Color : Cuivre orangé.

Nose : Rich, deep. The deeply complex aroma palette reveals notes of dried apricot, varnish, wax, band-aid, mustard seed, liquorice, dark chocolate, cardamom, honeysuckle, freesia, iris, roast mango, melon, grilled walnut, quince, pipe tobacco and patchouli.

Palate : Lively yet svelte. Little by little, the empyreumatic (fuel oil, incense), milky (coconut), syrupy (raisin) and floral (geranium, hyacinth) attack is covered in a fine layer of salted butter caramel. The medicinal mid-palate (mustard poultice, arnica) is oxidative (brandied cherries, candied ginger).

Overall : Long, heady. Staying close to the palate, the finish first evokes the luxuriance of a tropical landscape. Flavours of decomposing damp wood and chocolate notes with lit Havana cigar fill the contemplative and mystical after-taste (incense, candle).
