Founded in 1881, the Bruichladdich distillery was mothballed for the first time from 1929 to 1936. A series of closures and reopenings between 1983 and 2001 came to an end when it was purchased by Murray McDavid. Finally, it was acquired by Rémy Cointreau in 2012. This superbly maritime bourbon cask stylishly proves that peat is not a prerequisite for the coveted title of “Islay Single Malt”.

Nose : Rich, powerful. The especially salty first nose is also fruity (apple, pear), herbal (cut hay) and peppery. Allowed to breathe, stunning vanilla, medicinal (ointment) and liquorice fragrances bring the aroma palette lots of warmth. Fantastically classic!

Appearance : Or vif.

Palate : Lively yet well-balanced. The floral attack (peony, lavender) is also mineral (charcoal, slate). On the mid-palate, vanilla and lemon flavours come together beautifully and transcend the increasingly luscious flavour palette (green malt, verbena).

Overall : Long, creamy. Acacia honey initially appears alongside aromatic marine plants (samphire, mountain cowslip). This sweet and salty pairing lingers on in the delicate liquorice and milky (coconut, almond) after-taste and the smooth, malty retro-nasal olfaction.
