Founded in 1926, the Médine distillery is the oldest in Mauritius. Completely renovated in 1989, it replaced its single Savalle column with four new distillation columns. The rum it produces, called Penny Blue, is a reference to the most expensive stamp in the history of philately, printed in 1847. Remarkably smooth, this Single Cask brut de fût (60%) reveals, from the very first moment, all the magnificence of 13 years' ageing in oloroso sherry casks, admirably mastered. With its impressive length, its aromas continue right through to the empty glass, from which the scents of a Havana escape. Exclusive to LMDW, limited to 126 bottles.

Color : Acajou

Nose : Rich and creamy. Literally bewitching, the aromatic palette first reveals scents of chocolate, black coffee, hot bitumen and walnut stain. This empyreumatic opening gradually gives way to scents of fig, burnt caramel, treacle and zan.

Palate : Dense and full-bodied. In perfect continuity with the nose, the palette of flavours reveals ultra-ripe banana, candy sugar and fresh fig. Powdery (cocoa), slightly camphoraceous and liquorice-like, it gradually ventures into the world of Armagnacs, revealing prune flavours of rare eloquence.

Overall : Long and fluffy. With its sandy texture, reminiscent of a boulbènes terroir, the range of flavours becomes even more deeply rooted in the Gers. Increasingly infused (bay leaf) and autumnal (chestnut), the tasting continues with flavours of blood orange and gingerbread.
