Sugar cane was introduced to Nicaragua in 1880 by the Pellas family, who founded the country's only distillery in the village of Chichigalpa in 1890. Made in a pot still, this version, selected by La Maison du Whisky from Angus MacRaild, founder of the Decadent Drinks trading house, was aged for three years on site before maturing in the UK. A delightfully orchestrated blend of freshness and smoothness, its range of aromas and flavours, deliciously gourmand and nobly spicy, shines through with its remarkable unity of tone and exuberant exoticism.

Color : cuivre orangé.

Nose : Ample, fresh. Very pleasant scents of incense, curry and orange zest mingle delightfully at first. The aromatic palette then reveals literally bewitching aromas of apricot, exotic fruit (mango, guava) and salted butter caramel.

Palate : Rich and silky. Flavours of burnt sugar cane, bourbon vanilla and black liquorice make up the first taste sequence, which is both complex and delicious. Then apricots and oranges reappear. This brings a great deal of freshness and juiciness to the palate.

Overall : Long and delicious. Marked by flavours of praline, toasted walnut and candied ginger, the tasting continues with flavours of cane sugar and rum baba. Nobly spicy (cardamom, sandalwood) and honeyed (heather), the aftertaste invites us to savour an apricot tart.
