    Purchased in 2009 by Everglades Farms, owned by the Hussey family, Hampden Estate spans 6,000 hectares, one third of which is dedicated to sugarcane cultivation. Produced from a 10-day fermentation, this <> H (Diamond H) mark displays an ester content ranging between 900 and 1,000 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. From the very first nose, it asserts the distinctly mineral, empyreumatic, medicinal and oxidative character that defines Hampden’s identity. Its aromatic and flavour profile pushes beyond Caribbean borders, evoking the peat bogs of the island of Islay.

    Color : vieil or soutenu.

    Nose : Rich, heady. Terpenic (lava), empyreumatic (fuel, gasoline), oily, medicinal (tiger balm), camphoric, musky and chocolatey—this aromatic palette is anything but restrained. With aeration, sugarcane and macerating fruits (persimmon, mango, kaffir lime) release their intense fragrances into the air.

    Palate : Lively, powerful. The flavour profile is equally impressive in richness and concentration. Ashy, almost peaty, it at times evokes a single malt from Islay—an impression reinforced by a mineral evolution reminiscent of coal. Very fruity (pineapple) and liqueur-like (sugarcane), the finish boldly reclaims its Jamaican identity.

    Overall : Long, velvety. Deliciously vanilla-led (pod) and high in esters, it reveals harmonious floral (carnation, geranium) and honeyed (geranium) notes. In retro-olfaction, flavours of dark chocolate and cardamom tea lend it noble expression. Long after, petrol-like aromas linger from the empty glass, permeating the atmosphere.
