Founded in 1878 by James Stewart & Co., Glen Rothes was ravaged by fire in 1897 and then by an explosion in 1903. Between 1963 and 1989, the number of stills at the distillery gradually increased from four to ten. The oloroso sherry butt used for this version’s maturation has bestowed it with incredibly diverse and undeniably original flavours and aromas characterised both by their complexity and classicism. The harmonious combination of gentian root and tropical fruit is the perfect example.

Color : cuivre orangé.

Nose : full, slender. The oxidative (brandied cherries), tropical (mango) and tertiary (walnut, date) aroma palette above all stands out for its beautiful maturity. While increasingly medicinal, divine florals (rose, heather) gradually take the lead.

Palate : rich, lively. The flavour palette is incredibly fresh, revealing spices (pepper, star anise), rich, sweet notes (toffee) and resin. Blood orange, quince jelly and incense add smoothness and open up the palate.

Overall : long, silky. With more root flavours (gentian), the finish is delicately salty. The oloroso’s influence is wonderfully prominent. The grand finale offers deeply refreshing tropical flavours of guava and persimmon.
