Behind number 53 lies Islay’s largest distillery. Renovated in 1974, the distillery is equipped with three 19,000-litre wash stills and three 13,000-litre spirit stills. Very naturally embodying the characteristic smoky, peaty and marine nature of this outstanding single malt, this version is replete with incredibly youthful honeyed and milky sequences.

Nose : Subtle and deep. The very marine first nose reveals notes of shellfish, seafood, salt, iodine and kelp. Allowed to breathe, a distinguished and quite dry peat deeply rooted in Islay’s soil is nuanced with lemon, vanilla and milky (coconut) fragrances

Appearance : Or vif.

Palate : Lively, elegant. On the attack, flavours of white mint, dandelion root and an oilier and richer peat dominate the ensemble. On the mid-palate, acacia honey and almond milk arrive with perfect timing to refresh the taste buds.

Overall : Long, well-rounded. The very sunny and empyreumatic finish is characterised by flavours of hot tar and smoky peat that linger on into the after-taste. The very end of the finish is like a barley field shimmering with nuances ranging from pastel to bottle green.
