Each spring, the hills of Chichibu—home to one of Japan’s most iconic whisky distilleries—are transformed into vast carpets of pink and purple during the Shibazakura Festival, one of the most famous flower festivals in Japan. This breathtaking floral display, celebrating the awakening of nature and the fleeting beauty of spring, draws visitors from across the country to the foot of Mount Bukō. Inspired by this radiant, delicate and spectacular landscape, Chichibu Distillery has crafted this edition around two 7-year-old whiskies, each matured in a carefully selected cask to reflect both the spirit of the festival and the distinctive character of spring in Chichibu. The first whisky, aged in a second-fill bourbon barrel that previously held a peated whisky, reveals a smooth and well-balanced profile. The peat influence remains intentionally subtle, adding depth and structure while allowing notes of sweetness, gentle spice and refined oak to unfold—echoing the soft nuances of flowers spread across the hillsides. The second, matured in an umeshu cask, offers a bright and harmonious character. The influence of the Japanese plum liqueur brings forward orchard and exotic fruits, complemented by a gentle roundness and refreshing liveliness that evoke the joy and freshness of the Japanese spring. Together, these two expressions embody the philosophy of Chichibu: a constant pursuit of balance, precision and elegance, bridging tradition and innovation while capturing the essence of nature in bloom in every sip.
