CHICHIBU FOUNDATIONS
The Japanese distillery Chichibu unveils a new series of four single cask whiskies distilled between 2013 and 2016.
Two of them explore peat: one made with peated malted barley, the other aged in an ex-peated whisky cask. The remaining two offer a comparison of bourbon cask aging, including one of the distillery’s oldest single casks and another finished in a wine cask from the prestigious Grand Puy Lacoste estate.
The labels of these bottlings, adorned with geometric patterns, were designed by Kunihiko Moriguchi (born in 1941). Recognized as a Living National Treasure, this artist has profoundly revitalized the Japanese tradition of yuzen, a three-century-old textile dyeing technique reserved for ceremonial kimonos.
His unique approach transforms the kimono into a contemporary work of art rooted in a centuries-old heritage.
