Tasting note

  • Appearance : acajou.
  • Nose : voluptueux, onctueux. Le chocolat chaud, les oranges sanguines, la noix grillée, les abricots, la mûre sauvage, la figue, le pain d’épices, le safran, la noix muscade, le miel de tilleul, la confiture de reine-claude, la fraise des bois, la cerise à l’eau-de-vie, l’orge maltée arrive enfin en point d’orgue.
  • Palate : duveteuse, soyeuse. La poudre de cacao, de nouveau le safran, la crème brûlée, le melon, voilà pour son caractère gourmand. Ensuite, le brou de noix, la datte, la cannelle et la réglisse alimentent un milieu de bouche tannique. Elle évolue sur le tabac frais et la mangue.
  • Overall : avec une énergie sans cesse renouvelée, elle se montre florale (lilas mauve, pivoine) et épicée (cannelle, toujours le safran). Elle devient pimentée (Espelette) et poudrée (cacao). En rétro olfaction, la noix grillée, le curry et le coing forment un triptyque sensuel. Le verre vide est malté et chocolaté.

After nearly a century, Yakima perfectly illustrates the integration of whisky into Japanese culture. For its production, Yamazaki uses six types of malted barley with various levels of peat, all from Scotland. It is during the fermentation process that Yamazaki begins to acquire some of its Japanese character. The 10, 12 and 18 year-old releases all have a rich, refined, elegant profile, characterised by the absence of malted notes. With age the initial fruity, vanilla notes are joined by dried fruit, chocolate and oak, all the while continuing to offer tremendous freshness. Find out more
