At first transparent when it comes out of the still, your whisky takes a golden, amber or dark color depending on the type of cask used for is aging. To reinforce the fake idea that an old whisky is necessarily darker, the addition of artificial color is a common method in many distilleries, but some still choose to keep it natural.
