En 1870, George Garvin Brown a créé Old Forester à Louisville, Kentucky. En l'honneur de cette année marquante dans l'histoire du bourbon, Old Forester 1870 Original Batch a été crée rendant hommage au processus de dosage original de son créateur. À l'époque, Brown regroupait des fûts provenant de trois distilleries pour créer un profil de saveur cohérent. Aujourd'hui, les futs sont sélectionnés dans trois distilleries, chaque fût provient d'un jour de production, avec une preuve d'entrée différente et un profil d'âge différent. Les trois expressions de Old Forester sont ensuite regroupées et filtrées de manière minimale pour fabriquer Old Forester 1870 Original Batch.
