Renowned for its particularly aromatic heavy rums made from extremely sweet sugar cane and fermented at great length using indigenous yeast, the Hampden distillery is a veritable institution in Jamaica. This 2000 vintage quite naturally and ardently explores an incredibly luscious olfactory and gustatory landscape within which a single ingredient forms a bridge linking the three stages of the tasting experience: artichoke. The colourful finish is an absolute delight and the perfect synthesis of the nose and palate._x000D_

Nose : rich, concentrated. Particularly spicy and even medicinal (balm), the initial nose is also characterised by notes of artichoke heart, citrus fruit (grapefruit, lemon), green walnut and exotic fruit (pineapple). This is but a glimpse of its full complexity. Upon airing, it swells into a fruity (pear, apple), floral (lily, azalea) and vanilla-scented concoction._x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_

Palate : firm, lively. Bursting with herbaceous freshness, candied (pear) and fruity (Williams pear), as in the initial nose, it reveals notes of beautifully grainy artichoke heart with incredible elegance. Juicy, creamy and sweet, the mid-palate is a pure concentrate of sugar cane. The end of the palate coats the taste buds with honeyed and floral (acacia, geranium) notes._x000D_

Overall : long, voluptuous. Sparkling and highly evocative, it showcases luscious vegetation bathed in the light of the midday sun. It simultaneously drenches the palate in very refreshing exotic flavours (pineapple, guava, mango). Highly mineral (slate), the retro-nasal olfaction is fibrous (sugar cane) and almost tannic. The empty glass is sunny, vegetal (artichoke heart), fruity (angelica) and a touch rubbery._x000D_ _x000D_
