The passionate young winegrower Margaux Dufréchou has been producing Armagnac at the Péré estate in Bourrouillan, Gers, France since 2015. This cask strength bottling was made with Baco grapes and perfectly embodies the philosophy behind the eco-responsible project Alabat, whose colourful labels were designed by Basque artist Anna Petrissans. The refined and stripped back palette of flavours and aromas is deeply rooted in the vineyard’s magnificent tawny sands terroir. The result is a strongly sculpted personality with incredible freshness.

Nose : Fine, ethereal. A beautiful apricot, varnish and empyreumatic (kernel) rancio fills the air on the first nose. Allowed to breathe, the aroma palette becomes more floral (lavender, wild geranium) and sandy (boulbènes), revealing vegetal notes of tobacco leaf.

Appearance : cuivre orangé.

Palate : Clean, distinguished. With jam (quince), light smoke and liquorice, the flavour palette carries on perfectly from the nose. It invites us to bite into crisp, perfectly ripe grapes, underscored by a delicate herbaceous bitterness (tea, coffee).

Overall : Long, serene. Bourbon vanilla brings a lovely feeling of fullness. With a pleasant rustic feel, prune and star anise draw out the tasting. On the retro-nasal olfaction, sweet and strong spices (cinnamon, ginger, clove, nutmeg) rival each other in intensity.

Closer to the producer

In 1948, Abel Labat ventured into Armagnac production in the Landes region. Seventy years later, his great-grandson Simon chose to revive his family legacy by creating Alabat. His ambition? To present exceptional Armagnacs crafted by passionate artisans and showcased by artists. Beyond merely continuing his family’s narrative, through
the collection of single casks, this new independent bottler contributes to shining a light on the diversity of Gascon eau-de-vie and the craftsmanship of those who produce it.
