For this 20th edition, master distiller Elizabeth McCall experimented with finishing bourbon, rye and wheat whiskeys in Madeira casks, creating a whiskey with a unique fruity profile. Woodford Reserve's cask-finishing philosophy aims to accentuate the attributes already present in our complex whiskies, without ever adding to or altering the flavors.
Originating from the islands of Madeira, off the coast of Portugal, these casks are imbued with the dried fruit, spice and nutty notes of the fortified wine they once contained. To enhance these flavors, we've blended them with our fruity Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey.
The result is Woodford Reserve Madeira Cask Finish.
Nose : Black cherries and candied oranges sprinkled with cocoa, revealing lively notes of pepper, clove, nutmeg and cedarwood.
Palate : Rich oak, cinnamon, clove and tobacco box fade, giving way to intense notes of dried fruit, such as grapes and dried cranberries.
Overall : Bright spicy notes persist before giving way to red fruits and dark cocoa.
