Founded in 1943, Rampur is India's oldest distillery. Located at the foot of the Himalayas, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, it is owned by one of the country's leading spirits companies, Radico Khaitan Ltd. Its first whisky, the blend 8PM, was launched in 1997, and its single malt, Rampur Select, in April 2016. The label of this single cask recalls the cannon erected in front of the distillery, echoing an Indian tradition of honoring each of the states with a symbolic number of cannon shots (fifteen for Uttar Pradesh) during official ceremonies. This bourbon barrel-aged version displays a remarkable unity of tone. Oscillating between classicism and originality, it shines with a tenderly powdery texture.

Nose : Both subtle and heady. Extraverted, the aromatic palette reveals scents of loukoum, rose petal, ylang-ylang and varnish, harmoniously interwoven. On aeration, aromas of beeswax, coriander, pink pepper and malted barley complete this highly evocative picture.

Palate : Fine, slender. Giving free rein to the barley, the palate digs an impressively long malty furrow. Green landscapes, aromatic herbs, candied ginger and ripe mirabelle plums follow one another along this winding path.

Overall : Balanced, silky. Diversely fruity (candied apricot, hazelnut, chestnut), the finish is imbued with honeyed flavors that deeply coat the taste buds. The exotic aftertaste (pineapple, lychee, mango) emphasizes Rampur's trademark extrovert, generous character.
