At the end of 2023, faced with the need to take over the family business, Yoshiharu Takeuchi made the decision to close the Nine Leaves distillery he had founded in 2013. Six months later, he sold all his aging casks to his Italian distributor, the renowned Velier house led by Luca Gargano, one of the world’s foremost rum experts. Aged in a barrel that previously held red wine from the Wente estate, located in California’s Livermore Valley, this expression shines with an elegantly extroverted character. Radiant with brightness, its aromatic and flavour profile explores the world of Scottish single malts, highlighting its intensely fruity and floral nature.

Nose : Both powerful and voluptuous. Nobly woody (American oak), spicy (clove) and powdery (cocoa), the aromatic profile gradually reveals vanilla, resinous and honeyed (acacia) notes, lending it softness. With aeration, rich floral scents (honeysuckle) and fresh fig permeate the atmosphere.

Appearance : topaze.

Palate : Lively and taut. Peppery and fruity (pear, mirabelle plum), the flavour profile also hints at lightly burnt cane sugar. This generous introduction unfolds into luscious notes of crème brûlée, rice pudding, and more mentholated nuances.

Overall : Long and suave. Evoking in many ways a Highland single malt, it is both tropical (roasted pineapple, candied mango), herbal (freshly cut hay) and creamy (coconut). Then, cane sugar and cane syrup flavours lead into a lush, luxuriant realm. In the retro-olfaction, enchanting geranium aromas and peach-abricot flavours extend the tasting experience indefinitely.
