In the 19th century, at the height of sugar production, each of the approximately 200 plantations in Guyana had its own still. The rums produced were notably used to supply the daily ration for Royal Navy sailors. Today, the country’s only operating distillery, Demerara Distillers Ltd, preserves legendary stills inherited from iconic plantations: Versailles, Uitvlugt, Port Mourant, Enmore, and Diamond. Warm and full-bodied, this expression maintains an unwavering consistency throughout the tasting while steadily building in intensity.

Color : cuivre orangé soutenu.

Nose : Rich and profound. Precisely evoking the caramelized aromas of Tarte Tatin and apricot, the aromatic profile immediately sets the tone for a flavorful and indulgent tasting. With aeration, notes of marmalade and prune fill the olfactory space.

Palate : Full and smooth. Equally delicious, the flavour profile is simultaneously chocolaty, apricot-like, and honeyed (heather, linden). Over time, medicinal notes (balm), smoky empyreumatic hints (varnish), and heady floral touches (tuberose, lily) gradually coat the palate. Pipe tobacco and black licorice also make an appearance.

Overall : Creamy and full-bodied. Revealing roasted mango, flambéed banana, rum baba, and currant notes, the finish flows directly from the nose and palate. More tangy (blood orange), spicy (grated ginger), and saline, the finish and retro-olfaction are remarkably fresh and lively.
