GLEN MORAY 18 ans 2007 Muscat Finish Berry Bros. & Rudd

Situated west of Elgin, the Glen Moray distillery, formerly a brewery converted in 1897, produces soft, fruity whiskies, influenced by the high humidity in its warehouses near the River Lossie. This 18-year-old single malt, finished in an ex-Muscat cask, opens on a rich and indulgent nose: raspberry ripple cake, ripe Medjool dates, and a whisper of rose petal. The Muscat cask adds a floral, perfumed lift, enhancing the fruit-forward character, while vanilla custard and caramelised sugar evoke crème brûlée, enriched by polished oak and a touch of cinnamon. The palate is velvety and harmonious, with juicy raspberries, golden sultanas, sponge cake, and caramelised nuts. The finish is long and generous, with red berry compote, toasted almonds, and a final flourish of creamy vanilla and brûléed sugar, resulting in a decadent, utterly moreish whisky. This whisky is part of the Odyssey range, an annual collection of 20 carefully selected casks, re-racked for a second maturation of at least three years. Each bottle explores the possibilities of controlled aging, charting a unique journey through the influence of the wood.
