Neither French, nor Italian! In 1821, Dolin was part of the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. Always alert to new trends, Ferdinand Dolin soon took inspiration from the Italian fashion for bitters to create his own. Originally prized for their medicinal properties, these bitter drinks had become all the rage as aperitifs. Thus was born Bitter Dolin, crafted from plants and spices such as bitter orange, gentian, cinchona, and bigarade (a type of citrus), macerated in wine for several weeks.
