AUCHENTOSHAN 13 ans 2007 COLLECTIVE 5.0 48%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / The Lowlands, 70cl, Ref: 60110
When tasting this version distilled in 2007 for the first time, one thing is clear: sherry finishing could not be better suited to this iconic Lowland single malt. Even better, its very nuanced and wonderfully fruity palette of flavours and aromas is enriched with generous and spicy notes as well as stunning autumn shades that further bring out its deeply malty character.
Sourcing actor, importer and exclusive distributor of a portfolio of international brands, La Maison du Whisky is, since 60 years a reference for whisky and spirit lovers. - Appearance : mahogany.
- Nose : refined, smooth. Revealing a beautiful fruity (apricot, orange, mandarin), slightly burnt and waxy rancio, the first nose develops intense notes of black fruits (bramble, blackcurrant, blueberry, cherry). Allowed to breathe, an underlying malted barley appears in the background of the aroma palette. Gradually, superb notes of toffee, sweet pastry (Paris-Brest) and dried fruit (fig, date) seize the foreground.
- Palate : lively yet well-balanced. A perfect summary of the aroma palette, the attack is characterized by notes of apricot, salted butter caramel, ground malted barley and precious wood. On the mid-palate, flavours of prune, grilled walnut, dark chocolate, liquorice and dried leaves paint wonderful autumnal tones. The further enhance the nutty aftertaste (sweet chestnut, chestnut).
- Overall : long, mellow. The rich start of the finish invites us to enjoy a delicious chocolate cake. Next, sweet spices (cinnamon, ginger) provide a slender and powdery transition to a finish characterized by stunning woody notes (sweet chestnut tree, oak, walnut tree). The retro-nasal olfaction reveals walnut cake and the empty glass releases fragrances of apricot and bitter orange.
- The brand
Auchentoshan produces the most symbolic of the Lowland single malts. The triple distillation (rare in Scotland) and the distillate’s very high alcohol content enable the production of a fine, subtle, soft and elegant single malt that is often marked by herbal and citrus notes. As well as their standard aged products, Auchentoshan also produces a large number of limited editions, aged in wine or bourbon casks, in vintage and cask strength versions. Valinch, a no-age bottling, bottled without reduction, is highly-reputed amongst a large number of connoisseurs.
A model of British industry, Auchentoshan distillery has obtained the Queen’s Award several times. Since 1993, the malt has been traceable to its field and sowing date. Its success has now travelled far beyond Scotland, and has enabled the upholding of a tradition particular to this region. Auchentoshan is the only Scotch single malt to be distilled three times, a practice that dates back to the 19th century. Another remarkable fact is that the middle cut is collected at 82.5%, which is 6% higher than most other Scottish distilleries. Founded in 1817 in Dalmir, the distillery is accessible by train from Glasgow, and receives numerous visitors every year.
Artist, Lands of Scotland, Malt Pedigree, Tartan, The Ten, Very Cloudy... all of these whisky ranges – composed of single malts and single grains – have one thing in common: they were all created by the team at La Maison du Whisky. They are the fruits of many decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious bottlers in Scotland. For some years the French importer and exclusive distributor of the classic ranges of well-known spirits producers, La Maison du Whisky was soon granted the very rare privilege of being able to complement these ranges with their own, bringing together two sets of expertise, two reputations and two complementary histories under one, single label.
The lineSince the dawn of time, artist collectives have been a place of exchange, inspiration and creativity. In the same way, each of the single malts found in our Artist Collective range draws the richness of their olfactory and gustatory palettes from the marriage of various casks. Devoted to diversity, every region and every style of Scottish single malt, peated and unpeated, are represented. Within this range we also find 43%, 48%, 57.1% (100 proof) and cask-strength bottlings. To illustrate the labels of the six bottlings in our first collection, La Maison du Whisky has called on contemporary artists from very different backgrounds. Each of them brings their own very personal touch that echoes the richness of the single malts selected!
