Ardbeg Alligator is a limited edition released in 2011 that takes its name from the special treatment of its casks. “Charred Alligator” is a term used to describe the degree of charring on the inside of the cask, with the burnt wood taking on the appearance of alligator skin. In reality a blend of two batches of Ardbeg, the first matured in new American oak casks charred using the “alligator” method, and a second aged in bourbon casks.
