3S 2015 OHISHI Tokubetsu Gentei

The Ohishi distillery is now the largest of the small distilleries; it produces over two hundred and fifty thousand litres of shōchū per year. Some of it is aged in brandy and then sherry casks. This blend produces a unique aromatic and taste balance. Ohishi broke the mould in the early 1970s by innovating: he began to age his shochu in oak barrels. He also innovated by using barrels from the Ariake cooperage when it was created in 1976. 3S Tokubetsu Gentei is a junmai shochu aged in 3 year old sherry and 3-5 year old brandy casks, then blended using the brewers' renowned expertise to achieve the "perfect blend ratio" and maximise the aroma and umami of the rice. This shochu will have a flavour comparable to liqueurs known in the West due to the aromas released by the barrel ageing, and will have a rather round body, a smooth mouthfeel and a richness tending towards mellow aromas. 3S, SUPER SHOCHU SPIRITS is a premium shochu brand working with a selection of distillers (including Ohishi) who are all true craftsmen of shochu production. Heirs to the knowledge and philosophy of a prestigious lineage before them, they never stop developing and honing their skills to challenge the next generation. 3S collaborates with Ohishi Distillery in creating this Tokubetsu Gentei shochu.
