Founded in 1823, Mortlach is believed to have been built on the site of a former illicit distillery. It was one of the very few distilleries authorised to produce alcohol during the Second World War, until 1944. Carrying out partial triple distillation, and benefiting from an old-fashioned ‘Worm Tube’ condensing system, which it shares with the Talisker and Edradour distilleries, Mortlach produces a very delicate distillate. This Mortlach was aged for 15 years in sherry casks before being bottled at 46%. This Speyside single malt has a gourmet, spicy profile, with aromas of candied fruit, caramel and citrus. The Distillery Labels range reflects the special relationship Gordon & MacPhail has enjoyed with a handful of distilleries for over a century. Entrusted year after year with new make spirits (distillates), Gordon & MacPhail has developed its art of maturing whisky and showcases each expression on a unique label. An honour for these now iconic distilleries, which used to bottle little or none of their single malt under their own label.
