This 2009 vintage Islay Blended Malt is a 16-year-old edition from Elixir Distillers' "The Whisky Trail" series. Initially created for a previous project, these two Islay malts were blended by the Elixir team and deemed so remarkable that a portion was set aside for an additional three years of aging in Oloroso sherry casks (second-fill and refill) to develop its full complexity. It is a "Single Cask" edition limited to only 625 70cl bottles, bottled at a natural cask strength of 58.9%. The overall profile is distinguished by notes of marshmallow, citrus, and coal smoke.

Nose : Opens with coal smoke, grilled mackerel skins, and candied lemons. We also find warm bacon-wrapped dates and cherry sauce.

Palate : Dense and rich, with an abundance of peat smoke right from the attack. It evolves into intensely toasted marshmallow, redcurrants, and orange oil. Added to this are notes of chocolate cherry liqueurs accompanied by a barbecued sirloin steak and grilled asparagus.

Overall : Lingering on deep peat, accompanied by touches of lemon and thyme.
