Located just a few miles from the magnificent Celtic cross of Kildalton, Ardbeg is the last of the “Kildalton distilleries”. Like Laphroaig and Lagavulin, it is exposed to the fierce winter storms of the island's south coast. A heavyweight with high levels of phenols in its malt (Ardbeg was long the most peaty of Islay malts), its casks are aged in the cellars adjacent to the sea, absorbing the highly iodized ambient air.
The single malts in The Character of Islay Whisky Company collection fully embrace their retro feel and intensely peaty, salty profile. They are the perfect embodiment of the spirit of Islay. Bottled at its natural strength from a single cask, this Ardbeg 10 Year Old 2001 is a rarity with a full, complex and smoky character.
