Founded in 1926, the Médine distillery is the oldest in Mauritius. Completely renovated in 1989, it replaced its single Savalle column with four new distillation columns. The rum it produces, called Penny Blue, is a reference to the most expensive stamp in the history of philately, printed in 1847. Fermented for 48 hours, this rum was aged for 15 years in an ex-whisky cask before being bottled at its natural strength. Rich and spring-like, this rum reveals a palette of exotic, spicy and oriental aromas and flavours that give it a freshness all its own. Limited edition of 94 bottles.

Nose : Fine and fresh. Ranciot (apricot), oxidative (balsamic vinegar), medicinal (Velpeau strip) and floral (orange blossom), the aromatic palette is very lively. On aeration, aromas of ylang-ylang, turmeric, curry, mango and persimmon give it a touch of the orient and the exotic.

Appearance : Cuivre orangé

Palate : Lively and taut. Nobly woody (cedar, stave oak), the palate returns to notes of apricot and persimmon. Then cocoa powder and freshly grated ginger tactfully coat the taste buds. Over time, citrus zest refreshes the ambient atmosphere.

Overall : Long and racy. Rooty (ginger, gentian) and vegetal (sugar cane), the range of flavours gradually becomes smoother. Flavours of dark chocolate and gum arabic invade the palate. Long afterwards, scents of liquorice and bacon emerge from the empty glass.
