Producing 120,000 litres of pure alcohol per year, the Hellyer’s Road distillery is one of Australia’s largest. Having developed a wonderfully mature expression over the years, this bottling presents a peat that, like a skilled orchestra conductor, enthusiastically takes the lead in an overwhelmingly generous performance of flavours and aromas. A series of sunny, misty, rich and floral sequences, in the stunning grand finale, it also proudly displays its malty origins.

Heavily Peated

Nose : Rich, dense. Combining rich peat, castor oil and ash, the first nose takes on animal tones (leather, bacon). Allowed to breathe, it becomes increasingly medicinal (tiger balm) and empyreumatic (sleet, turpentine). Fragrances of roasted apple, curry and roasted pineapple are then released.

Appearance : Vieil or.

Palate : Powerful, lively. On the attack, the same oily peat permeates the palate, filled with mineral salts and marine plants. The acrid yet heady flavours of Havana cigar then take over the flavour palette, gradually covering it in intense smoke and ash.

Overall : Long, rich. Chocolate and vanilla notes rival each other in intensity. Peat takes control of the infinitely smooth palette of flavours. Candied pear and heady florals (mimosa, nasturtium) appear alongside especially crisp malted flavours in the after-taste.
