Last Year, the Glenlivet 2007 Whisky Live Paris Edition, aged in sherry casks and bottled at 66.6%, astounded everyone lucky enough to taste it. So, when we first found out that this 900192 cask came from the same batch, we knew it had to be part of this year's Artist Sherry collection. With imposing maturity, every stage of the tasting is linked by a guiding theme that guides the taster, right to the remarkably concentrated dried extracts of the empty glass.

Nose : rich, complex. With incredible balance, the initial nose wavers between heady florals (carnation, peony), leather, dried apricot, heather honey and wild strawberry. Allowed to breathe, it becomes chocolatey. Wild peach replaces apricot and blueberry takes the place of wild strawberry. Further still, black liquorice and fresh fig bring lots of depth to the aromatic palette.

Palate : sharp, lively. The attack is like a juicy Mirabelle plum tart, served with a helping of gooseberries. Allowed to breathe, a fine layer of salted butter caramel coats the palate. Poetically reproducing the sherry's influence, the mid-palate reveals truly delicious notes of black cherry and prune. The rich (clafoutis) end of the palate reveals an invigorating freshness.

Overall : long, enveloping. Dark chocolate, liquorice and a handful of blueberries bring energy to an extremely concentrated finish. Iris butter and corinthian raisins further accentuate the sensation of extreme maturity found in the palette of aromas. Both roasted and juicy, the retronasal olfaction wavers between chocolate, coffee, pipe tobacco and blood orange. The balsamic empty glass is characterised by notes of walnut, cumin and cedar.
