“Bere” barley is an heirloom variety, very different from modern strains, which was phased out due to its very low yields.
In partnership with the Orkney Institute of Agronomy, the Bruichladdich Distillery is reintroducing this historic variety with its rich and unique flavor, which was used by Scotland’s earliest distillers.
Aged for 10 years in ex-bourbon barrels and ex-Pauillac wine barrels.
