In response to the rising success of the Dew of Ben Nevis blend, a second distillery, Glen Nevis, was built in 1878. The two distilleries initially operated in tandem before eventually merging in 1908. This high proof bottling matured in a wine cask from the Montravel appellation reveals clear parallels with the cask #202 featured in our À La Conquête des Origines catalogue. The same deeply mature and rich profile is found, now accompanied by more pronounced peaty notes.

Nose : rich, deep. The aroma palette’s intense complexity is immediately revealed in dried peat, toffee, orange zest, chocolate drops, a sprinkling of salt and toasted walnuts. The earthy nose then develops ever-more heady registers (iris, hyacinth).

Appearance : vieil or soutenu.

Palate : clean, lots of tension. The peppery and hot (paprika) flavour palette wavers between notes of candied pear, apricot and citrus fruit (grapefruit). With gentle malt and ashy notes, the palate then becomes more tropical (persimmon) with menthol notes.

Overall : long, silky. On the finish, dark chocolate coats a now more subtle peat. Delicate flavours of tobacco and candied ginger gradually fill the rich and heady (lily) finish.
