Distilled in a column still in 2006, this rum was first transferred to a new oak cask on 29 May 2007, before bring aged in a red oak cask previously used for cognac from 2008 until it was bottled on 3 April 2023. Released as a part of a pair with its cask strength alter ego, this version reveals a palette of flavours and aromas that develops to the rhythm of incredibly fresh and complex fruity, floral and spicy tones.
Tasting notes
Nose : Rich, heady. A delicious orange jam feeds into an also medicinal (ointment) first nose. Allowed to breathe, fragrances of cane sugar, noble spices (cinnamon, clove) and florals (geranium, hyacinth) intensify the luxurious character of the aroma palette.
Appearance : Cuivre orangé.
Palate : Taut, lively. On the attack, cane sugar is released as apricot and orange flavours form a tangy and fleshy fruity development. On the mid-palate, notes of tobacco and tar create a solid foundation for the flavour palette.
Overall : Long, full. Tinged with exoticism (mango, guava), the start of the finish is delicately liquoricey and vanilla (pod). The powdery after-taste (cocoa, ginger) is a subtle mix of spicy (nutmeg), floral (geranium, iris butter) and vegetal (sugar cane) tones.
