New Zealand distillery Scapegrace, founded in 2014, has launched its first limited-edition whiskies. Among the first versions unveiled in 2022, Rise is crafted from New Zealand barley of the Laureate variety. This expression, aged for five years in French oak casks, reveals spicy notes of cinnamon and clove, combined with gourmet flavors of vanilla cream and buttered toast.
Nose : Sweet notes of honey and marzipan, reminiscent of a Battenburg cake, alongside fruity notes of berries and currants.
Palate : Round and well integrated, on crème caramel and stewed peaches, with a nice pleasant smoke that reminds us of sweet black tea.
Overall : Notes of chocolate, caramel and black tea linger on.
